How does it work?

The solution of Basal Implants.

They are types of dental implants that are placed deeper into the bone (basal and cortical bone), even if there is severe bone loss. This gives strong stability immediately after the implantation, enabling the rehabilitation of immediate prostheses such as crowns, dental bridges, or fixed dentures within the first 72 hours.

Advantages of Strategic Implants

Basal implants offer many advantages over conventional implants, including faster healing times, greater stability, and reduced surgical procedures.

Patients with limited or atrophic maxillary bone often face difficulty obtaining fixed teeth with traditional dental implants. However, these patients can achieve perfect fixed teeth with basal implants, without the need for additional surgical procedures.

Patients with medical conditions such as diabetes, heart problems, bone deformities, and even smokers can also benefit from permanent fixed teeth through basal implants.

Avoid Bone Graft & Sinus Lift

There is no need anymore to go through long and painful procedures for bone augmentation - sinus lift and bone graft. Basal implants, as can be seen in the illustration (below, right), can be fitted at an angle of up to 30 degrees, thereby avoiding the sinus area and the need for a sinus lift and bone graft.

This makes it possible to treat cases that traditional systems cannot without bone grafts, expensive and painful surgeries, and long waiting times.

Reduction in the number of visits and early recovery

Due to the special design of the implants and the stabilizing role of the bridge, this system has been specifically developed for full jaw/mouth restorations. To create the proper stability, 8-10 implants per jawbone are needed, without this representing a higher cost.

The procedure

Initial Consultation

This includes the clinical history, taking of x-rays, tomography, clinical photographs, and dental models.
This will allow us to establish a diagnosis and an individualized treatment plan for the case.
This initial phase is important to determine the conditions of the existing bone where the implants would be placed.

Initial Consultati

Treatment begins with the extraction of teeth (if necessary) and the insertion of implants.
The entire treatment usually lasts between 2.5 and 3 hours, during which local anesthesia and intravenous sedation on request are used .
Then, records of the implants placed are taken to the dental laboratory for preparation of the new teeth.

24 Hours

The next day, you must return for the first fitting of the elements of the fixed dental bridge. This appointment lasts no more than an hour in most cases.
In the case of a single implant, the new semi-permanent crown will be placed on this second day as a normal delivery.

48 Hours

Final test of the new teeth, where color, size, fit, and occlusion (bite) will be evaluated.
The average time for this appointment is 1-1.5 hours

72 Hours

The moment you have been waiting for has arrived!

During this time, the semi-permanent bridge will be cemented to your implants, and you will be ready to show off a spectacular new smile.

Post-treatment follow-ups and permanent teeth

While patients can eat and smile happily with fixed teeth after the first treatment, post-treatment care and follow-ups are extremely important:

From the fourth month after treatment, those cases of single implants must return to the clinic for follow-up evaluation and placement of their permanent zirconium crown.
From the sixth month onwards, patients with full arch rehabilitations must return for evaluation and placement of the definitive fixed bridge, which may be acrylic or zirconium, depending on the particular case.
Depending on the condition in which the patient arrived at the initial consultation, some patients may have to continue waiting up to 1 year after implantation for their permanent teeth.

Who performs the procedure?

The treatment is carried out by Dr. Rolando Samano Brooks, who has more than 30 years of experience in dental practice and more than 10 years as a Dental Implantologist, graduated from the National University of Mexico (UNAM).

Differences between basal implant and conventional dental implant

• Basal implants, being a single piece, do not require multiple attachments that make up the traditional biphasic implant.
• The basal implant does not require a bone graft even when there is a lack of bone.
• The basal implant is placed in the 2nd layer of the cortical bone. Therefore, its name is a bi-cortical implant. The conventional dental implant is placed in the spongy part of the bone, the alveolar bone.
• The basal implant is said to be immediate, it can be placed immediately after tooth extraction and its prosthesis is fixed within 72 hours of placing the basal implant.
• Conventional dental implants require a period of osseointegration of 3 to 4 months before placing the prosthesis fixed.
• The basal implant can easily be removed or corrected. The classic dental implant is very complex to be extracted. Its removal leads to the destruction of an important bone mass.

Is this procedure painful?

No, it is performed under local anesthesia. The surgical time is relatively short and we also have IV Sedation option at an extra cost performed by a professional Anesthesiologist. It allows you to be sedated just enough to be unaware of the treatment getting your dental treatment in an environment that’s stress- and anxiety-free.

How many implants are needed for a Full Arch Rehabilitation?

A complete rehabilitation of an arch may require 8 to 10 Monophasic Basal Implants, or 4 or 6 Biphasic Conventional Implants, depending on the option requested.
The increase in the number of implants, in the case of Basal Implants, does not represent an increase in cost.

Can I have my individual crown or fixed bridges placed on the new implants in the same visit?

Yes, the Monophasic Basal Implants that we use at Unidental it allows us to make an immediate loading using a semi-permanent crown or fixed bridge on the same visit of implant insertion.
The normal delivery time for a single crown is 24 hours and for a full arch restoration is 48 to 72 hours, since some tests and adjustments are required for its preparation.
With the use of conventional Biphasic Implants, the option will depend on the bone conditions of each patient.

What is the difference between Monophasic Basal Implants and Biphasic Conventional Implants?

The Monophasic Basal Implant is a single-piece implant, in which the screw is inserted into the bone and the abutment is fixed to which the crown is screwed.
It has been used in dentistry for more than 25 years, requiring minimally invasive surgery, without flaps, and practically painless.
They are primarily designed for immediate loading and there is no need to wait through a long recovery.
The Conventional Biphasic Implant, unlike the monophasic one, is made up of several pieces that can be assembled together at different times.
The implant is inserted into the bone and covered by the gum. Therefore, the system is submerged.
Once the osseointegration phase is complete (4 months), the gum is opened again, the screw is inserted and the gum is allowed to heal before the definitive prosthesis is made.

If I can’t start put implants in both arches, which I am suggest starting with?

In the case of full arch rehabilitations, we will always recommend doing both arches in the same session as the best option. However, if you are only able to start with one of them, you should start with the upper arch, if aesthetics are your priority, since these are the teeth that are most visible when speaking or smiling.
In case you need to improve the function of your mouth, the lower arch is the priority.
The reason is that most people have a hard time keeping the lower denture in place.
The tongue usually pushes it and displaces it.
The lower denture really has no bone to “wrap” around, so implants automatically solve that problem and you automatically lose the fear associated with trying to keep teeth in place.

Somewhere else I was told I couldn't get implants

We have good news for you. The Basal Monophasic Implant System can solve cases that Conventional Implants cannot or require expensive and time-consuming prior bone grafting. Dental restoration is thus possible for almost all patients, even cases of severe jawbone atrophy and bone recession. Even diabetes or gum disease does not necessarily prevent you from receiving the treatment.

Are other surgical interventions, such as a sinus lift or bone graft, necessary?

These surgical interventions can be avoided with the Basal Implant System, because these specially developed implants can be placed at an angle of up to 30 degrees, thus avoiding the maxillary sinus area and the need for a sinus lift and bone graft without having to wait months for them to be completed. These thinner, longer implants are inserted into the hard bone layer beyond the cancellous bone, which is still strong enough in most people to support implants even in those with insufficient cancellous bone.

If you decide to stay in Matamoros during your treatment, we have excellent hotel options very close to our clinic in which you could stay. Roundtrip transportation to the hotel in Matamoros can be provided at no additional cost. If you prefer to return to the United States and stay at a hotel in Brownsville, TX, you can do so easily, as our convenient location “just a few steps” from the international bridge will allow you to come and go in just a few minutes. Another good option is to enjoy the paradise of South Padre Island, just a few miles from Brownsville TX, and enjoy the sunset, relax or simply observe the natural wonders of this part of the geography. We recommend walking from Brownsville to Matamoros, to avoid waiting time in the line of cars returning when crossing the international bridge. There are several options where you can leave your vehicle all day for very few dollars just a few steps from the bridge. We can also recommend a Hotel-Unidental-Hotel shuttle for a very low cost or we can pick you up at the bridge on the Matamoros side.
